He finished out the season strong, capturing the lowest ERA on Pacific's pitching staff at 3.99 and a 3-2 record. Upon the completion of his junior year, Rowse moved up to seventh on Pacific all-time career appearances list with 58 in three seasons. David earned a starting role in Pacific's 5-1 loss at UC Riverside on May 3, when the lefty went 5.1 innings deep allowing only one earned run. That was the southpaw's longest outing of the year up until that point and proved that he had what it takes to start a game and help guide the team into later innings. In his next start, Rowse was to face the nation's top team, No. 1 UC Irvine, and rose to the challenge on May 9. Rowse tossed 7.2 innings and allowed only three runs, leaving the game tied as Pacific fell 5-4 after Rowse left the game. But David's most impressive effort during his junior year came on the road against Cal State Northridge on May 16. He dished out a complete-game 11-0 shutout to the Matadors, to account for the only time Pacific shutout an opponent in 2009, and Pacific's first complete game shutout since March 14, 2008. David commandingly earned the win, using 113 pitches in nine innings and allowed seven hits while striking out six. Rowse gave up a lead-off triple to start the game and then shut down the Matadors from then on out. For his performance on the hill, Rowse was named Big West Pitcher of the Week on May 18.2008 (Sophomore):
Rowse began the season as the third starter in the Feb. 24 game against Houston and recorded his longest outing of the year with 4.2 innings pitched in the 10-9 loss. As the season progressed, he demonstrated himself to be a better bullpen candidate and made 19 of his 21 appearances in relief, pitching 27.2 innings throughout the year. Towards the end of the season, David tested out a closing role and garnered one save against UC Irvine to preserve a late 10-9 victory on May 10. Academically, Rowse was one of two Tigers on the squad to be named to the 2008 Big West Academic All-Conference Team for the spring term.2007 (Freshman):
David did not shy away from the spotlight in his first season as a Tiger. Instead, he commanded attention. Rowse was the Tigers' opening day starter in 2007 and delivered 22 appearances, including 12 starts. David was second on the team with 82.2 innings pitched and closed the season with a 2-7 record and one save. Rowse's best outings of the season came against the best competition as he held No. 2 Clemson to three runs (two earned) on six hits in seven innings in the Tigers' 4-3 loss on Feb. 24. The ensuing start, Rowse delivered a gem, limiting No. 24 Baylor to just an earned run on two hits in eight innings as the Tigers defeated the Bears, 3-1. Rowse's performance against Baylor earned him a spot on the Collegiate Baseball Foundation National "Players of the Week" Honor Roll. En route to earning his first victory, Rowse recorded a career-high nine strikeouts in the eight inning performance. Rowse was also named the Most Outstanding Pitcher of the Pacific State Bank Tiger Classic following his effort against Baylor.High School:
A 2006 graduate of Amador Valley High School, Rowse was a two-year letterwinner in baseball for the Dons. In two seasons on the mound for Amador Valley HS, David posted a combined record of 17-7, including a 9-3 mark during his senior season. As a starter, Rowse's numbers were even better as he concluded his high school career with a 15-3 mark and an overall ERA of 1.00. Following his senior season, David was named to the All-East Bay Athletic League First Team and to the All-East Bay First Team. Rowse nabbed second team honors following his junior season. In the classroom, Rowse was a four-time member of the Principal's Honor Roll, the 2005 NCS Scholar Athlete of the Year and the Army's Scholar Athlete of the Year.Personal:
David Rowse was born in Olympia, Wash., and is the son of James Rowse, a member of the Pacific Hall of Fame as a three-time All-America golfer, and Lori Rowse.
